About the IC-7000 verse the FT-991.... The 991 is a better radio. You will be much happier with the FT-991... I had the IC-7000 for a while also...I do too many trades
There is NO perfect radio... The ATU in the 991 is better then nothing, but for a field radio is it a joke...It is only 3:1. It should have been at least 10:1. IMHO... But if you have a antenna that is running a higher SWR on one end of the band and is still in the 3:1 it works..I have, and I highly recommend, the MFJ-939Y ATU..32:1 and zippy fast. The combination of that ATU and the FT-991 really does make for field radio or home one.
Yes, some idiot at Yeasu cut the FM radio off again. Damn stupid. Another funny is no real VFO B. They do sneaky for splits. Works OK, but I still like a real VFO B sometimes.
The touch screen does make getting around easier. A few functions are in the menu, but not hard to get around. Typical of Yaesu, a huge menu with a most default features that will never be used. Not sure why they don't just hide them and leave useful ones like ICOM
So would I recommend he radio over the IC-7000...Yes
It is convenient to pay more money to buy a Yaesu 991A instead of 991 ? Thanks for your commentary. Celestino
